Nov 7 — Acts 27:1-26

SCRIPTURE: Acts 27:1-26

OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
This is a fascinating, well-written ‘play by play’ account of Paul’s journey to Rome. Paul doesn’t seem to be stressed by being sent to Rome. He does take the opportunity to say “I told you so” (v.21), but he encourages them to keep on hoping. Actually, Paul’s presence on the ship is to their advantage. It is because he must speak to Caesar that Paul and his shipmates will be spared.

Why the Lord sometimes speaks directly to Paul, sometimes by the Spirit, and here by an angel, is a mystery to me. I tend to blend these together, to see the voice of Jesus, the Spirit and the angel as one voice.

God’s purpose through us does affect the outworking of history. Not only does the “salt” add flavour to the world, it also acts as a “preservative”. It is for the sake of the Lord and His people and His purpose that these sailors are spared. This example can be expanded to apply to all of history; It is for the sake of the Lord and His people and His purpose that this world is preserved.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to see that my calling is to flavour the world for You, but also that through me You are doing good in the world, and in the lives of those that I meet. That You for the assurance of Your purpose, overriding and directing all events and experiences. Amen.
