Reflecting on John 17:20-24“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory…” (John 17:24)
There is something mysterious about what Jesus is saying in this section.
But one thing I know, I want what Jesus wants… to be with Him, to see His glory.
The Jesus I meet in the Jesus stories is compelling to me.
Granted, like His disciples then, being with Jesus would be challenging.
I would be slow to understand, and likely quick to run like they did.
Being with someone fully expressing God’s glorious love would be…
Comforting — to sense His full acceptance, understanding, compassion, kindness.
Convicting — to feel my own inadequacy, folly, lack of love and openness to others.
Compelling — to be inspired and motivated to live and love like Him.
It would be very challenging in a good way to be with Jesus; this is what I want.
I call myself a Jesus follower, but really I am a Jesus seeker.
Like Paul, I want to know this Jesus, and not just to be religious (Philippians 3).
This is what Jesus wants for me, and for all people created by God.
For now, knowing Jesus by His Spirit and through the Jesus stories is all we’ve got.
But one day we will see Him face to face… how my heart yearns within me.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, we were made to experience this amazing love and fellowship with God and You, with all people and all creation. This is what we were made for, and what our hearts long for. This is what You want for us. This is what I seek!
I desire to be more like Jesus, to love as He did, to be an instrument of His peace. All of His people including me, need to share His love to one another, practicing the Way. The bottom line – ALL for Jesus.
