Reflecting on Acts 2:
“We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own to languages!” (Acts 2:11)
Jesus sends us to make disciples of all nations.
But how can we communicate with people with think and speak differently?
How can we overcome the confusion and division of Babel?
On this day the Spirit of Jesus gives them the words to speak.
on this day the Spirit of Jesus gives the listeners ears to hear.
The idea about ‘speaking in tongues’ has shifted from this Pentecost moment.
For some it is proof that a person is a Spirit-filled christian.
For others it is a personal prayer language, how we a person speaks to God?
To me ‘tongue speaking’ sounds like guttural nonsense, and means little.
What I want to do is declare the wonders of God… and to be understood.
Speaking in tongues means nothing to me, but communicating Jesus does!
I am glad to let the Spirit of Jesus use my words and mouth to do this.
And if it comes out in a different language, great.
Or if it occurs by the Spirit giving them ears to hear me, great!
May the Spirit use my tongue, my hands, my life to declare the wonder of Jesus!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, forgive us for using our tongues to argue about speaking in tongues. May our tongues be used for talking about You. Oh for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise!
