Reflecting on Acts 3:1-10
“Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” (Acts 3:6)
I once heard someone observe that Peter says two things we can’t say today.
We cannot say ‘silver and gold I do not have’.
And we cannot say ‘in the name of Jesus, walk!’
If Peter and John did have silver and gold, would they have given that?
I have prayed for healing in Jesus’s Name, but not with the same results.
Once again I need to stop looking at this as a formula or checklist.
Peter and John sincerely wanted to help, and gave what they had.
What they had was what we have, the Name of Jesus, the Name of God.
They had the sevenfold love of God (Exodus 34:6-7) overflowing in them.
And God, not Peter or John, helped this man in response to their love.
Whatever we have, including the silver and gold we DO have, is available to us.
We have time, education, resources, community supports, hands, mouths, etc.
Everyone has something along with the Name (love) of Jesus in them.
Are we dedicating what we do have to showing and sharing the love of Jesus?
Who knows what miracles God will perform, when we make this love our priority!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, use my prayers and words and acts of generosity and kindness to help and to heal others, that they may know and experience Your amazing love for themselves. I offer what I have to You, to offer it to others in Your Name.
