Reflecting on John 15:26-27“The Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father — He will testify about me. And you also must testify…” (John 15:26–27)
The Spirit of truth will testify about Jesus.
The Father, Who sends the Spirit, testifies about Jesus.
The Bible too testifies about Jesus (John 5:39-40).
And like the Father and the Spirit, we must testify about Jesus.
This was the great commission Jesus gave His disciples (Acts 1:8).
A testimony refers to what someone has witnessed and experienced.
“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched — this we proclaim…” (1 John 1:1)
To proclaim is another word for preaching, to declare what we have witnessed.
This makes all of us preachers, not just those who’ve been ordained.
Don’t testify to the church, or the bible, or your theology, or denomination.
Don’t just mimic or echo what others have experienced (what you’ve been taught).
Don’t pretend to have experienced more, or try to be an effective witness.
Whatever we experience of Jesus is what we share; the Spirit does the rest.
Consider this: when you talk about religious things, is it Jesus you talk about?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, we do a lot of talking about church, the bible, this or that theology, this view vs that view, why we are right and they are wrong. Help us to join the Father, the Spirit and the Bible in talking about YOU!!!
Being a follower, I am an imitator. I need to show Jesus by my words and deeds. I need to be like Christ unto others. I need to be an instrumentof His peace. Others need to see Christ Jesus living in me.
