Reflecting on John 1:14-18
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)
This contrast shows us the difference between the witness and the Word.
Jesus reveals God in a way that Moses did not, and could not.
Moses asked to see God’s glory, and God gave him a glimpse (Exodus 33:18-20).
Moses saw His glorious goodness (see Exodus 34:6-7). but Jesus is full of it.
God’s glory is the glory seen in Jesus, which Moses did not have.
The Law (written revelation) cannot compare to the fullness of Jesus.
The Law talked about grace and truth; Jesus embodied it.
Jesus makes God known in a way that the Law/Bible cannot.
The Jesus stories give us pictures of God’s gracious love in action.
How Jesus related to sinners is how God relates to us.
Though I cannot see Jesus now, I can imagine His human face, His loving smile.
We can imagine Him living among us, walking with us, serving and help us.
We can learn from Him, to live and love and lead like Him, reflecting God’s glory.
The glory of God is His loving goodness, compassion, mercy, etc.
Do you know this glorious goodness… does it reflect off of you to others?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I use the Bible, and especially the Jesus stories, to know You better. And through You, I know God better. Thank You for revealing the fullness of God's glorious goodness, and inviting me to experience it too.

As His disciples were with Jesus, I too need to be with Jesus. I need to be come like Jesus and do as He did. I need to be practising the Way. Grace and truth will mark that way where the Lord God will lead. As his disciples experienced His presence then I need to experience His presence in my life living for Jesus.
