Who gets to define Orthodoxy?

Posted on September 5, 2026September 5, 2026 by Norm

“History reminds us that appeals to orthodoxy are never made in a vacuum. Sometimes, orthodoxy is nothing more than a baptized version of the prejudices of the age. Christians throughout the centuries appealed to orthodoxy in defense of slavery, war, the burning of “witches,” the Crusades, colonization, and the persecution of so-called heretics. Simply calling something orthodox, or biblical, has never guaranteed a reflection of Christ. Who gets to define “orthodoxy” has always been as much a question of power as it has been a question of theology.”

think about it!

I consider looseness with words no less of a defect than looseness of the bowels.
