Feeding my soul with God’s work!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: John 4:27-38

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” (John 4:34)
What good is it to feed the body, and to starve the soul.
A life without healthy meaning and purpose is no life at all.
Jesus needs food, just like us; but it is not food that feeds his soul.
Here Jesus is energized, he is not thinking about food but about what happened.
Have you ever been so immersed in your work that you forgot about eating?
This happens to Jesus, and the work that fed him was drawing people back to God.
He sees what is happening in this Samaritan woman, and he is energized.
He knows she is telling others, and that they’re coming to hear about God too.
“The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” (John 6:29)
Do I trust that God is working, and that Jesus is working in people’s hearts through me?
Jesus does the hard work, I just need to step out to reap the benefits of his labour!
What could I do today that would feed me like this, to be energized by sharing Jesus?
My job is not to convince or change people, just to love God and people in Jesus’s name.
He will do what only he can do, and I can taste the goodness of God and be satisfied.
PRAYER
Lord, my job is to trust you as I share your love and point people to God. Feed my soul with seeing how your love convinces and changes others.

  1. “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work”. I haven’t fasted for some time (I should) but I do remember that ‘hungry’ feeling. It’s good to fast as it reminds us of our dependency – reminds us that we are created beings dependent on food and water. Here Jesus tells us of what drives and motivates him – that is his food, his sustenance: doing the will of the Father. I do not have such a vital connection to God – that it becomes like food – so important for me – that I would rather starve of food and water than not do the will of the Father. Lord help me to be more convicted as a believer – to truly be a dedicated and committed follower of Jesus – to be more like him in everyway!

  2. Why am I here?
I was created to be a servant of the King doing His will. His will be done. Others need to see the love of Christ in me. That Love I need to share with others and His Spirit will do the rest. I need to go forward in that confidence each day. I need to be a channel of His peace.

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me bring your love.
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord
And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there’s sadness, ever joy.

Oh, Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
