Choosing to work for Jesus!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 10:38-42

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Mary has chosen what is better…” (Luke 10:42)
Martha’s problem wasn’t her hard work, but who she was working for.
She was focused on herself and her hardship; this made her upset.
Jesus is not saying we should stop working and just pray.
Jesus is urging us to choose to turn our work into prayer.
“Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Mary offered her listening to Jesus, Martha could offer her work.
Cleaning, repairing, working, eating, all can be done for him.
Our work can be an act of worship, if we choose it to be.
The Lord is asking me, ‘will you choose what is better?’
‘Will you offer whatever you do to me, with love and joy?’
Am I feeling worried and upset about many things?
Maybe its because my focus is not where it should be.
Martha, like Mary, could choose to do her work for Jesus.
Today I will think about how to do my work with and for Jesus!
PRAYER
Lord, choosing to work for you could change how I experience my work, and even make me less worried and upset about things. Help me turn my work into worship!

  1. There are times when I can overburden myself – I know I should let go or delegate to others. I’m not good at that so I sometimes might feel like Martha: “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?” Jesus is right, I need to adjust my priorities. In order to do that sometimes I get roadblocks or diversions – that remind me that I am not in control and it all does NOT depend on me! Still I have a strong sense of stewardship – wanting things to get done. But I have to stop thinking that it won’t get done if I pass it on to someone else. Even if I get discouraged by the results through someone else, I need to work with that person to help them be better stewards as well!

  2. Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being for the Lord and not for men. It is the Lord God I am serving each day in all I do and say. That must be my focus each day. Whatever my hand finds me to do this day, it is all for Jesus.

    Jesus, all for Jesus
    All I am and have
    And ever hope to be
    Jesus, all for Jesus
    All I am and have
    And ever hope to be
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
    I surrender these
    Into your hands
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
    I surrender these
    Into your hands
    For its only in
Your will that I am free
    For its only in
Your will that I am free
    Jesus, all for Jesus
    All I am and have
    And ever hope to be
