Good help is hard to find!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 10:1-7

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” (Luke 10:2)
Only Luke tells us about this second mission team of 72 (Luke 9:1-6).
He then mentions that the harvest is plentiful, to explain why.
It seem he meas that there are lots of people ready for his message.
Peoples whose hearts and lives are ripe for good news.
He also mentions that they will be like lambs among wolves.
While many are ready for Jesus’s message about peace, not all are.
“If someone promotes peace…” (10:5) seems to be the key.
Jesus offers grace, mercy and peace, and many people are ready for it.
I would say the same for today; I believe people are ripe for Jesus.
Our world desperately needs grace, mercy and peace… Jesus!
So why are so many leaving the faith and the church?
I wonder if it is because the workers have been more wolf-like.
When christians tear each other apart as they do, they are like wolves.
If we don’t model grace, mercy and peace, will the world let us in?
PRAYER
Lord, you are sending us with good news of grace, mercy and peace. Help us to be like lambs, and not like wolves, as we do your work in the world.

  1. Jesus sends out His disciples. The workers were few then and that is true also today. I like the idea of the two by two, so that they may encourage one another. They are instruments of His peace, sharing the Good News. The news shared reminds me of the parable of the sower and the seed. It is the Lord God Who gives the increase. He continues to send out His workers who in a Christ like way bring the Gospel to the people. Others need to see Christ living in us as we move about in this His world.

    1 Make me a channel of your peace:
    Where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
    where there is injury, your healing power,
    and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
    2 Make me a channel of your peace:
    where there’s despair in life let me bring hope;
    Where there is darkness, only light,
    and where there’s sadness, ever joy.
    3 O, Spirit, grant that I may never seek
    so much to be consoled as to console,
    to be understood as to understand,
    to be loved as to love with all my soul.
    4 Make me a channel of your peace:
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
    in giving to all that we receive,
    and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

  2. “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.” Coming in peace is the best way – even when you have a tough message to bring. Coming to someone’s place accusative usually results in a closed door. Jesus came in peace and he was welcomed into many homes. It has been my privilege to be welcomed into many homes as well – non-believers and believers. We come in peace and with the hope that we may have good conversations – that dialogue happens. I pray that I might be a good ambassador and the HS may use my conversations to bring peace and bring people closer to Jesus!
