Spirit change me too!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Samuel 9-10

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy.” (1 Samuel 10:6)
Saul is chosen to be God’s servant king, and he receives God’s Spirit to do this.
I’m reminded of how Jesus was filled by the Spirit after his baptism (Luke 3:21-22).
As a result, Jesus too is empowered to do his work:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has
sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)

Both Saul and Jesus had the same calling, but the outcome is different.
Whereas Saul cannot resist the power of Satan and sin, Jesus does.
Jesus succeeds where Saul (and David, and everyone else) fails.
Jesus is our anointed king, we follow him; his Spirit now lives in us.
We are anointed to rule with, like and for Him – and not for ourselves.
“You will be changed into a different person.” (1 Samuel 10:6)
The Spirit changes us too, to be like Jesus, to be and to bring good news as well.
Yes, I am among the prophets (10:11), but am I following the Spirit of Jesus?
PRAYER
Lord, You have anointed me too. Change me by your Spirit to be more like you. Help me to be and to bring good news to the world around me.

  1. Saul started out well. He did not seek revenge: “They despised him and brought him no gifts. But Saul kept silent.” He sought the counsel of God. He was humble – he hid among the ‘supplies’ as he knew what was coming. God places each one of us in positions where we may be tempted to go on our own – without seeking God’s counsel – through the work of the HS. That is a mistake. Help me to seek your will O Lord and following not my own understanding but seek your counsel! Let me in the way everlasting! Seeking your kingdom first!

  2. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul and changed him. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Jesus, Elisha, Samuel and . . . and upon the believers in the Hew Testament causing them to be His instruments of peace. We/I too have received His Spirit to be His servants. He continues to send His Spirit to do His work, sharing the Good News and be a blessing to those we meet and greet. Christ in me needs to be shared. Christian by name living out the Christ in me by words and deeds. Not my way but His will be done. I need to be Christ like in all I do and say.

    Jesus, all for Jesus
    All I am and have
    And ever hope to be
    Jesus, all for Jesus
    All I am and have
    And ever hope to be

All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
    I surrender these
    Into your hands
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
    I surrender these
    Into your hands

    For its only in
Your will that I am free
    For its only in
Your will that I am free
