Reflecting on John 11:38-44“Father, I thank you that you have heard me.” (John 11:41)
These words once again remind me that Jesus was fully human.
He is not performing miracles by His own power, but with God’s help.
Jesus shows us how a God-like human being (Adam) works in the world.
With us hearing God, and God hearing us, doing things as partners.
Jesus models this life of surrender to God, serving with, like and for God.
This is more than just an amazing feat, it is a cosmic reversal.
In partnership with Jesus, God is reversing the curse of death.
This is God’s mission, to make this world “very good” again (Genesis 1:31).
But it is not God’s mission alone; it is our mission too, with God.
When we work towards this goal, we can count on God hearing and helping us.
I don’t know what ‘greater things’ we can do in partnership with God.
But I do believe that with God we can do more than we could ask or imagine.
As we dedicate ourselves to blessing people with humble, gracious love, God will help us.
God does hear us, and know our hearts, and is eager to help us bless and help others.
Is this what God hears and sees from me, am I partnering with God in His mission?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, wherever I am, I can be a part of making things better with God's help. I can help people put off their 'grave clothes' and clothe them with 'grace clothes'. Use me to bring the miracle of life to those dead or dying around me.
A life of serving. I am not my own but belong to Him. That must be evident by my words and deeds. I need to be like Christ unto others. That is my daily ministry. That is my service. All for Jesus. And prayerfully I go onward.
