Reflecting on John 18:28-40
“The reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”(John 18:37)
Jesus literally speaks about everyone who is “out of the truth”.
All people were created to live and move and have their being in God’s truth.
But the deceit of sin has severed us from the unifying effect of truth.
We live in the world of Babel, where ‘our truth’ confuses and divides.
We are by nature “living out of deception”: disagreeing, dividing, destroying.
God’s voice of truth has been speaking into this world from the beginning.
The Teacher of Proverbs describes this as the Voice of wisdom.
But humanity has not been able to figure it out, nor to live out of it.
This is why Jesus came, and this is why Jesus is so important.
Jesus is God’s ultimate revelation of truth – God’s Way, God’s Truth, God’s Life!
Truth is not ‘right doctrines’, truth is right living and loving like Jesus.
The truth of God is love in action, healing and reconciling, not dividing and destroying.
Those who are ‘in Christ’ and live out of His love, are “living out of the truth”!
Those on the side of Jesus don’t fill the world with opinions, but with love!
We need to live IN this truth before we can live OUT OF this truth.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, we spend too much time trying to be right, and not enough time being loved by You and being loving toward others. The truth is, we were made by love and for love. Help us to live IN the truth of God's love so that we may live OUT OF the truth of God's love!
