For me???

THE STORY OF JESUS: 2 Samuel 5-9
“Who am I, Sovereign Lord, that you have brought me this far?” (2 Samuel 7:18)
As a follower of Jesus I can relate to what David says here.
Who am I that I get to call God my father (2 Samuel 7:14)?
How can God bless me, when like David I have my own issues with sin?
Why would God stoop so low to unite Himself with a flawed human family?
The wonder of God’s grace ought to show itself in our response.
To be undignified in worship, willing to look weak before others (2 Samuel 6:22)
And to graciously welcome others like Mephibosheth to our table (2 Samuel 9:7).
Jesus becomes one with us, a member of the human family.
He joins us at our table, and bears the stain and smell of our sin.
He attaches God’s Name to us, pledges God’s eternal love for us (2 Samuel 7:15).
And as our brother, He establishes God’s kingdom by defeating our greatest enemy.
This amazing grace is for everyone, no matter who they are!
Who am I, who is anyone, that God should bring us back to Him?
Yet the answer is clear: I am – we are – God’s precious, much-loved children!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, may I like David be undignified in my love for You because of Your grace, and may I be excessively gracious to others around me, like You have been to me!

  1. The Lord God was with David.
How is the Lord with me? Do I inquire of the Lord on my daily activities? How do I greet each day? How often do I talk with my God? Do I hear His voice saying, ‘This is the Way. Walk in it.’
Do I know daily that I am in the presence of God?
Once again, this day, a new day, I must start the day saying, ‘Good morning Lord. Thank You for Your presence, Your leading in my life. Help me this day to live for You.’
This is the day He has made and all I do and say must reflect that I am His and He is mine, His banner over me is love.
    He is my Provider.
I am reminded of the words of Joshua – As for me and my household, we will serve the living God.
I am His servant doing what He requires of me walking in His way.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

    Refrain

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
