“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) You know those times when you feel like you forgot or lost something? You can look high and low, right and left, and everywhere else by retracing your last steps, but just can’t seem to find what you are looking for? This often happens to me when it’s in the context of misplacing my phone and keys. But, what about those time’s you don’t feel that God is close by, and you search high and low, and retrace your steps, but He is no where to be found? Has He just forgotten us, and left us here to deal with the cards life deals out to us? This week, I have grown to seeing God in a different capacity. Seasons change, but God remains forever the same.
This Tuesday I had just locked the centre with my co-worker at 6:30 pm when I had got the call that my dad was having a stroke and that my husband and I needed to come to the hospital right away (which is two hours from where we live) As I hung up the phone, I tried to stay calm. However, part of me wanted to yell. First my step dad, my mom, and now my dad all in the span of a month suddenly have health problems. At the same time, this is life. Life changes in a blink in an eye, and nothing is ever set in stone.
Nothing, except for Him.
I have realized that life and its uncertainties may shake me, but God the almighty One that He is-does not move nor change. Life can be rapidly changing, and decisions may have to be made, but I can be rest assured that the more I cling to Him, the more that His strength sustains me.
The more I search high and low however, the more I miss out on the opportunity to see that He is right beside me.
He is constant. He has not forgotten me. He has not left me on my own.
Lamentations 5:19 – But LORD, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation.
Often I think I can speak for most of us, that many of us strongly dislike change.
We’ve been so accustomed to running that program that way for years, or running Sunday services that way since it opened Or had that family doctor since you were born and he had to retire. Our health changes, our jobs change, our ministry changes, our families change. Writing this, I am reminded of the fear I felt once I found out about having a sister I never knew I had. Change like that is terrifying but I am also reminded how much God has His hand in it and how He never left me on my own.
Sometimes, change can be indeed scary, even out of our control completely. I just had lunch with my dad on Monday and he was completely healthy, and the next day things changed.
But,
The hope comes with knowing He doesn’t.
His love, and strength, and abundance stays faithfully the same.
One thing remains, and that is His love never runs out.
