Reflecting on John 4:27-38
“My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” (John 4:34)
There have been times I was so immersed in a task that I forgot to eat.
I wasn’t hungry in the moment because the work itself was feeding me.
Jesus finds deep satisfaction in representing the God of grace.
He feels ‘full’ from speaking God’s heart to this woman’s heart.
He savors the way the Spirit is working in her, and He is satisfied.
We all share one mission together: to know and to show the love of Jesus.
Of course we need to take care of ourselves, to eat and to rest.
But these are not our mission; they are resources to help us in our mission.
Many people make these secondary things their mission, their focus.
They have no greater purpose than their jobs, their stomachs, their comforts.
We were made to find our greatest joy and satisfaction in loving God and others.
Is this why so many are not experiencing and joy and satisfaction?
Every person we meet each day is an opportuity to feed on God’s love.
As we serve them with kindness and patience, we are fed ourselves.
We reap what we sow; may I reap joy and kindness by sowing joy and kindness!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, today You have lined up opportunities for me to feast on Your gracious love. Help me to see each person as an assignment from You, an opportunity to know and to show God's amazing love.
