Spiritual dementia

Posted on September 28, 2014September 28, 2014 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 105
Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced… (Psalm 105:5)
He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations… (Psalm 105:8)

How little we appreciate the gift of memory, until we start to lose it.
Alzheimer’s disease is the death of brain cells that causes memory loss and cognitive decline.
It starts mild and gets progressively worse.
God does not forget; He remembers us, He remembers His promises, He always knows what He is doing.
We experience spiritual alzheimer’s – or spiritual dementia – early in life.
We forget about God, about Who He is and what he has done.
Psalm 105 contains a healthy preventative for spiritual alzheimer’s… intentional remembering.
The Psalmist here reviews their national history, how God has helped them in the past.
Make a point of regularly reviewing – every day, every week, every year – how God has been at work.
Look for the footprints, the clues that God is with you (or even carrying you).
Remind yourself that God remembers, that God cares, that God knows what He is doing.
Where did you see the footprints of God this past week?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, this past week You helped me remember an important truth about myself, and my work. It was a lesson You taught me before… but I forgot. Thank You for the reminder to remember!

    Observation/Application
    History.
    His Story.
    How often do I remember what the Lord God has done in days past?
    How often do I remember what the Lord God has done in my life?
    He remembers.
    I too need to remember.
    Praise be to God that He remembers His promises.
    I see His faithfulness in the days past.
    I see how the Lord remembered.
    Do I?
    Help me see your hand in my life each day anew Lord.
    Help me remember your faithfulness.

    Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
    There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
    Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
    As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

    [Refrain]
    Great is Thy faithfulness!
    Great is Thy faithfulness!
    Morning by morning new mercies I see.
    All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
    Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

    Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
    Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
    Join with all nature in manifold witness
    To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

    [Refrain]

    Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
    Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
    Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
    Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

think about it!

If you read history you will find out that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next.
