To seek the Lord with intensity

Posted on June 9, 2015June 10, 2015 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Acts 12:25-13:3
“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said…” (Acts 13:2)
I can’t recall ever worshiping and fasting as a church like this.
Fasting has not been a part of our church practice (I’ve fasted personally).
I like how it’s not about fasting, but about worshiping, and praying, with fasting.
To fast is to seek the Lord with intensity, focused devotion.
I have certainly had times when I worshiped and prayed with intensity.
Personally, but also a church, we have entered a time of intense seeking.
We are reviewing and revisioning our sense of purpose an calling.
We are hoping for the Spirit of Jesus to speak to us, to guide us.
And today I sense the Spirit of Jesus nudging us to worship and pray and fast.
Not as a technique to get what we want, but as an indication of our intensity.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
He is gauging our seriousness, He is determining our sincerity.
If we are willing, He will set us apart for the work to which He has called us!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, help me not to use fasting as a technique, but rather may I seek You, worship and pray to You will all my heart, soul, mind and strength.

    Observation/Application
    One task completed
    and
    in searching out God’s will
    by worshiping and fasting
since these were hard times for God’s people
    persecution
    SpiritPower came upon them
    and told them
    ‘Do this.’
    And they did.
How does God speak to me? Who leads me? Who guides my steps? How does His power affect my daily living for Jesus?
I too need to spend time with God – in prayer to know His will. I need to take the time – time set apart – to commune with my Father so I am able to be in tune with His will for my life. The fast for me tells of the intensity of their time with God. How deliberate am I with the time spent with God?
Thank you Lord for technology and devotional activity such as Jesus Follower that ‘makes me’ want to start each day with You. Accountability built in.
    GodStrong. SpiritLead. LiveStrong. WalkStrong.

    Spirit of the living God
    Fall fresh on me
    Spirit of the living God
    Fall fresh on me

Break me, melt me, mold me fill me
    Spirit of the living God
    Fall fresh on me

think about it!

How can we pray to Him without being with Him? How can we be with Him without thinking of Him often? And how can we think of Him but by a holy habit we should form of it?
