Reflecting on John 14:1-4
“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:2)
The disciples know that trouble is brewing, and they are worried.
They are in Jerusalem where the temple, the house of God, is.
There are barriers to getting in and the current tenants will not welcome them.
Jesus and them will not be welcome in the house of God.
But Jesus assures them: this is My Father’s house, there is room for all!
God’s house was intended to be a place of prayer for all nations.
It was the place where God came to live with humanity, to dwell with us.
But human cruelty puts up barriers and makes it hard for people to find God.
Jesus comes to Jerusalem to confront the gatekeepers, and to open the doors.
He is the gate, and He makes sure that there is a room prepared for everyone.
When the church hinders people from connecting to God, Jesus welcomes them.
He says to those shunned and excluded, ‘I’ve got a place for you!’
Jesus has forced the door open, and removed the barriers (read Ephesians 2).
“For through him we all have access to the Father by one Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:18)
Be encouraged, no matter what others say, God and Jesus have a place for you too!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, the gatekeepers of this world cannot prevent me or anyone from entering, for You have prepared a place for all of us! You are God's open door, inviting us into God's home, God's family.
