Reflecting on John 9:13-34
“One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” (John 9:25)
This man never went to seminary, and he is uneducated.
He doesn’t know who Jesus is, or believe that He is the Messiah.
His knowledge is just a dramatic experience with this man he doesn’t know.
But there is one thing he does know: this man has changed his life!
It is this experience with Jesus that makes all the difference.
I went to seminary, and I was educated to know Who Jesus is.
I knew the creeds and confessions, but I didn’t know Jesus by experience.
The creeds and confessions are fine to a point, but they are mere signposts.
I have been grilled by theologians and religious leaders about Jesus.
Some suspect that my views of Jesus are heretical.
I am not certain whether my views are right or wrong, but “one thing I know!”
I know that somehow this man Jesus has changed my life, and given me hope.
This man Jesus has helped me to experience God, myself and the world differently.
You can question my knowledge, but you cannot take away my experience.
My confidence is not in what I know; my confidence is in the One that knows me!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, experiencing Your grace has opened my eyes, and removed the scales of religion from eyes. Thank You for saving me from the certainty of religion, and bringing me into the confidence of grace.
