Reflecting on John 7:37-44“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. By this he meant the Spirit…” (John 7:38-39)
According to Genesis 2:7, humans were made when God’s Spirit breathed life into dust.
We could not be human or alive without the Spirit of God in us.
Yet in another sense we have lost our connection to God’s Spirit.
Creationally we still have God’s Spirit, but not relationally.
Like a child alienated from their parents, we remain their child, but disconnected.
Jesus lived in close, personal fellowship with God.
God’s Spirit and His own were in a dynamic partnership.
We need this relational fellowship restored, and this is what Jesus offers us.
After their fall, Adam and Eve lost their experience of this relational fellowship.
Our desperate longing for love is our spirit’s thirst for living in God’s love.
Jesus freely offers this restored fellowship, and Pentecost is the moment it happens.
Jesus was vindicated on the cross, and Satan was defeated, and Adam and Eve released.
God is overflowing love towards us, and wants us to receive and overflow with that love.
Do you experience God’s love like this, like an unstoppable river of life?
Jesus has arranged this reunion with the prodigal children; can you feel the Father’s embrace?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I want to experience this dynamic, overflowing love bubbling up in me. I am thirsty for God's love, joy and peace in me. Keep on filling me with the Spirit of God's love and life!
