Reflecting on Luke 20:45-47
“Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Beware of the teachers of the law.'” (Luke 20:45-46)
There is a strange irony in this statement.
The teachers of the law were the devoted followers of Moses.
They were the ones teaching people what it meant to obey God.
Imagine Jesus today saying, ‘beware the preachers of the Word’!?
Or bible teachers, pastors, ministers, theologians, evangelists???
Jesus points to their actions to expose their hearts.
What they do does not reflect Who they claim to represent.
Elsewhere He speaks of knowing them by their fruit (Matthew 7:15-20).
The only way we can do that is if we know what good fruit looks like.
At that time their actions could be compared to Moses’s, and challenged.
But today we have Jesus, Who is greater than Moses.
We need to compare those claiming to represent Jesus with Jesus.
Sinners, seekers and strugglers were drawn to Jesus and His compassion?
Are people helped and blessed by leaders today, or harmed and shunned?
This applies to all of us, including me: does Jesus need to warn others about us?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, it is not our positions that make us good representatives for You, it is our actions. How we live says a lot more than what we say. May it not be said of us, 'beware of that christian, for they're not like Jesus!'

I need to produce ‘good fruit’ bt my words and deeds. How do I carry Christ Jesus? Can others see Christ in me? I need to be like Jesus unto other and that can also be seen by my love. All for Jesus!
