Reflecting on Luke 17:26-37
“It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. (Luke 17:30)
Daniel has a vision of the Son of Man being revealed (Daniel 7:13-14).
That Son of Man will appear while the beasts of this world wreak havoc.
In the midst of the violence and misery, God’s Messiah will finally take charge.
That day will be unexpected, like the days of Noah and Lot.
Jesus says that disciples will long to see this day, but won’t.
I hear people saying that day is near, that the signs are there.
Maybe, but if it is unexpected, then how can we know that?
Jesus refuses to say when or where, but urges His disciples to trust Him.
No matter how bad things get, the day will come when He will be revealed.
This is all we can know for sure, and what we should focus on.
A day is coming when Jesus will finally set things right.
He will restore goodness, love, joy and peace for all.
The violence and misery of the beasts will end.
We won’t know when or where, but we do know THAT He is coming.
This is what I hang on to as we go through dark and disturbing days.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, once again our world is experiencing what seems like end times violence and misery. We can't know when or where, but we can know this: You will come, Your love and goodness will triumph, and evil will end. Come quickly, Lord Jesus.
