Reflecting on Luke 12:54-59
“How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?” (Luke 12:56)
Jesus is talking about discernment, being able to ‘read the room’.
Wisdom is the ability to piece things together, to predict what is going on.
Scientists of every kind do this with natural, social and psychological phenomena.
We should be able to do this with our own lives and situations as well.
But wisdom requires slowing down, paying attention, and listening to Jesus.
I believe Jesus speaks to us through the details of our lives.
He imparts more than information, He prompts us toward reflective wisdom.
Reflect on this: is the world, or the church, or my life in a good place?
We are seeing the polarizing division that Jesus was talking about.
It was reflecting on Jesus that made me rethink my view of christianity.
Compared to Jesus, the political, religious and social weather is a brewing storm.
The Jesus Way for me is vastly superior to the way of the church and the world.
Any can see that things in our world are coming undone… a train wreck.
In the midst of this crisis, Jesus followers should double down on gracious love.
Now more than ever, we need to trust and follow Jesus and the Jesus Way.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, it is not surprising that there is anger, divisiveness and condemnation in the world. But it has infected the church, the people who ought to be reflecting You and Your love in the world. Help us as Jesus followers to discern what is happening, and to renew our commitment to following Your Way of gracious love.

Where did I see Jesus today? When I look at the world around me I see the sign of the times. Things are being unglued and all are doing what is right in their own eyes – like in the day of Judges. I need the upward look every day and see the presence of God. After all, this is God’s world. Stop. Look. Listen to Him. This is my Father’s world.
