Turn your boat around!

Posted on February 16, 2026February 15, 2026 by Norm
Reflecting on Luke 13:1-9

“Unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

Imagine a rowboat drifting in the Niagara River, toward the Falls.
If the occupants don’t do something, they will perish.
Our world is drifting in the current of evil towards destruction.
It is not only really bad people who perish, everyone is in the same boat.
The current of greed, hate, abuse, pride and violence is strong.

It is easy to get sucked into it, and to be shipwrecked by it.
The word repent does not mean ‘admit you are evil’.
It literally means ‘change your mind’, implying ‘change your direction!’
When we drift in unloving, selfish thinking, we are heading towards destruction.
God designed us to love and be loved, to move towards kindness, compassion, mercy.

People do not suffer and die in our world because they are more evil.
Everyone experiences suffering and death; it is the way of the world.
We need to recognize why, how it comes from our failure to live and love like God.
And we need to row in the right direction, against the current, towards love!
Jesus not only urges us to change, He helps us row in the right direction!

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, to love like You goes against the flow, and requires being intentional and persistent. Help me to change my mind and my direction, and to eagerly choose and pursue Your way of living and loving, like God!

To be like Jesus. To practice the Way is going against the ‘flow’ of the world today. Selfishness, have it your own way, being the king of your own castle, all for me certainly is not the King’s Way. That isputting self front and foremost but as a Christian, others need to come first. To be happy one needs JOY – Jesus first – Others second – Yourself last. For the JOY of the Lord God is my strength and then and only then can I be an instrument of His peace.

think about it!
