PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 26:6-13
What do you sense Jesus saying to you in this passage?
“The poor you will always have with you.” (Matthew 26:11)
Matthew focusses on the indignation of the disciples.
Did they really care about the poor (see John 12:1-8)?
Jesus is not justifying ignoring the poor.
He is honouring the deep devotion and love of this woman.
Her love is the basis for a life of gracious service.
The radical love of Jesus changes her, and makes her loving.
She will have the rest of her life to express her love.
This is her first act of love, but it will not be the last.
Instead of being critical of others, how am I showing love?
If I criticize the waste of others, am I loving them?
Loving Jesus leads to loving the poor (Matthew 25:31-46).
Does my response to Jesus reveal the good news of grace?
Does my love for Jesus AND the poor reveal gospel grace?
I always have opportunity to love Jesus AND the poor… am I?
Lord Jesus, help me to know personally, to grow inwardly, and to show outwardly Your gracious love, loving You AND the poor!
