This week (Jun 2-Jun 8, 2025) I am listening with Jesus through Matthew 24. Unfortunately He will continue to give words of warning and challenge. Here he speaks about what is to come. Its direct reference is to the destruction of Jerusalem by Rome in 70 AD. But that event also serves as a symbolic pattern for how history will end when Jesus returns again. There is a lot of symbolism here, but behind it all we need to remember the heart of God and Jesus to gather and protect us (Matthew 23:37). It is not God’s unwillingness but human unwillingness that leads to these dark days.
What questions come to mind for you as you read these sections? What impression do you get about Jesus? What questions are raised, or what doesn’t make sense to you?
Are there any lines that you find comforting or convicting, confusing or compelling? Most important, what do you sense Jesus saying to you?
Leave your thoughts or questions in the comments below. And you may find it helpful to watch the Bible Project videos on Matthew, to get a sense of what Matthew is writing about.
