PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 22:1-14
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.” (Matthew 22:8)
Jesus speaks of the guests not deserving to come.
They weren’t invited because they deserved it but because the king wanted them there.
Their refusal of the king’s gracious request made them undeserving.
The same with the guest who comes without dressing appropriately (22:11).
He didn’t honour his king’s request, he came without respect and appreciation.
Jesus is using this worldly example as an analogy to make a point.
God, far better than a worldly king, graciously invites all to his feast.
This is not a command or an order, it is an extravagant opportunity.
The religious leaders were on God’s invitation list, but they refused to come.
Their refusal to receive or appreciate grace is what made them undeserving.
Have you ever tried to love or serve someone, and they refused it?
If we do not respect or appreciate kindness, we will not receive it.
God invites many by gracious love, but chooses those who humbly receive it!
The only thing keeping me from enjoying God’s gracious love… is me.
Lord Jesus, You have invited me to share in the feast of gracious love, and to welcome others to the feast. The only thing that makes me deserving is God’s free offer, and my willingness to enjoy it!
