PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 20
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“You don’t know what you are asking.” (Matthew 20:22)
James and John, and their mother, want to have the best seats.
They want to rule with Jesus, and to be in charge over the others.
Their motives may be pure, but they are also clueless.
They want power, but that is not how the Jesus Way works.
What am I asking Jesus for, and do I understand what it means?
For importance, comfort, an easy life, financial security?
Is this what Jesus represents, what Jesus came to bring us?
Right now I am in an uncertain time in my life.
What favor am I asking of Jesus, what am I asking for?
If I want to follow Jesus, I should want what Jesus wants.
Not to serve myself, but to be a servant to others.
Even if it costs me my comfort, importance, security.
Jesus has said no to me a few times now – which makes me wonder.
Do I know what I am asking?
Lord Jesus, I need to change my prayers. Grant that I may sit wherever You lead me to sit, and to see that place (wherever it is) as the place where you want me to serve others.
