PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 20
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Are you envious because I am generous?” (Matthew 20:15)
This parable reminds me of the older brother in the prodigal son (Luke 15).
He was jealous for how the father eagerly welcomed back his brother.
The father was being generous, motivated by love for his son.
The older brother did not love his younger brother.
As a father, I love all my children equally, fully.
They do not all live up to my hopes, and I do not live up to theirs.
But we generously love each other, and want the best for each other.
Can we see how God would feel this way about His children?
Who are the people I have a hard time loving – does God love them?
What does God want for them, what did Jesus do for them?
Do I want this for them, would I do that for them?
God knows our weakness, our flaws and failures and follies.
Through Jesus He generously shows us what He will do to save/help us.
Jesus invites me to love God and people like this… generously!
Lord Jesus, I am the older brother, thinking I deserve God’s generous love more than some others. Help me to love ALL God’s children, and to want God’s best for all of them.
