PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 20
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“You have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.” (Matthew 20:12)
Although this is a new chapter, it continues from ch.19.
This parable explains what Jesus meant by being first and last (19:30, 20:16)
Typically this story bothers us, it doesn’t seem fair.
But only if we think we deserve more if we do more, or better.
That is what the rich man thought, and Peter too.
But the master blesses each one the same, a denarius.
A denarius was a full day’s wages, what you needed to live.
The generous master gives each one what they need to live.
The new creation will not be separated between rich and poor.
Everyone will equally share in the master’s generosity.
From our worldly point of view, we prefer to work on merit.
But no one gets what they deserve; everyone is graced by God!
Are we as eager to share God’s generosity as God is?
Lord Jesus, Your grace is enough… for me, for them, for all of us. Forgive me for thinking I deserve more than others!
