How can I lift this burden?

Posted on March 12, 2025March 12, 2025 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 14

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“You give them something to eat.” (Matthew 14:16)
What do I do with this story, what is the lesson for me in this?
Normally I spiritualize it: feed hungry people with love, kindness, Jesus.
But Jesus says to do something practical, to address their immediate need.
Think of times when we face big – even impossible – challenges.
You witness a serious car accident, or a tornado rips through your town.
Don’t dismiss the need even though it is beyond you, DO WHAT YOU CAN!
I’m not trained in medical emergencies, I cannot fix the aftermath of a tornado.
But I can step up with what I have – my hands, my willingness, my time, my skill.
Jump into action and do what you can – because of compassion (14:14).
My contribution in a crisis may seem like 5 loaves and 2 fish… too little.
But I bring and do what I can, then look up to heaven, trusting God.
This is when the miracles happen, when God does more than we could do ourselves.
The Spirit magnifies our weakness, and helps others despite our inadequacy.
God wants to work through us, but our part is to offer something for him use!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, as I face an impossible burden, my effort definitely seems inadequate. I’m looking up to you, please magnify my weakness!

So often when we are asked to do something like teach Sunday School, let our name stand for elder or deacon, whatever the task, we often think that the task is too large for us. We need to take the focus off of “me” and remember that if we ask God to work in us through the Holy Spirit then amazing even miraculous things will happen.

think about it!

The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing… not healing, not curing… that is a friend who cares.
