Easier to understand?

Posted on February 26, 2025February 26, 2025 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 13:1-30

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Why do you speak to the people in parables?” (Matthew 13:10)
Parables are simple analogies, word pictures that simplify a deeper message.
Jesus is not trying to keep people from understanding, but to help them.
The disciples have the advantage of being with Jesus – they know the secret!
The large crowds do not have this advantage, and so parables can reach them.
“Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance.
Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.” (Matthew 13:12)

Jesus uses this proverb to explain why he needs to simplify his message.
If he spoke to the crowds like he did the disciples, he would lose them.
(Think of how a minister uses a children’s message to speak to children).
Parables are easy to remember, and if the heart is open, the truth will become clear.
The disciples were open to Jesus, therefore they could ask and gain more understanding.
If the crowds were open to Jesus, they too could listen, learn, and gain more!
Sadly, the religious leaders dismissed these stories, considering them foolish.
Jesus wants you to understand… but are you open to learning from his simple stories?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, your words are not always clear to me. But when I ponder them with you, with an open heart and mind, I find I do gain more understanding. Thank you for your simple stories, and their profound truths!
