You are God’s Messiah!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 9:18-20

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“But what about you, who do you say I am?” (Luke 9:20)
I was raised to confess many things about Jesus.
There are many doctrines (teachings) I was told to believe.
Jesus is asking me (and you) about what I think.
Jesus’s question is not about what doctrines we believe.
He wants to know about our experience of him.
For me it is Jesus’s teaching and life that impact me.
I experience Jesus as comforting, convicting, and compelling.
He looks me in the eye and knows me, loves me, accepts me.
He gently shows me my weaknesses without making me feel lousy.
He encourages me to be more like him, to love as he loves.
Jesus is to me the best revelation of God, the God I need.
He is my Lord, my Saviour, my Guide, my Friend, my only hope.
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
This is what it means for me to say he is “God’s messiah”
PRAYER
Lord, Saviour, Guide and Friend, thank you for being ‘God with me’, and for helping me to become all that God made me to be!

  1. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”
Jesus asked his disciples what the people say about who He is. But believing in Jesus as the Messiah is not something to do because it’s popular – it is a matter of personal faith! I confess along with Peter that Yes Jesus is the Messiah – the ‘anointed one’ – the saviour who has come – the Son of God/Son of man. Who Jesus is – is the most important point! I just think of the criminal on the cross who in the last hours of his life finds Jesus as the Messiah! He didn’t deserve mercy but he got and received grace! I am grateful that I have received mercy and grace as well through Jesus the Messiah!
