Struggling alone?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 8:26-33

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Driven by the demon into solitary places.” (Luke 8:29)
This story seems so extreme, it is hard to see how it relates to me.
But the question arises: what is driving my life in bad ways?
What unhealthy thoughts, fears or desires make my life difficult?
What addiction, attitude or dark secret is keeping me in chains?
I can think of a few things for me that are oppressing me and my mind.
As I talk with people, most have something that is troubling them.
Whether this is a ‘demon’ or not, the result can be similar.
They keep me from giving myself fully to God and to others.
They keep me from being fully myself, out of my right mind (v.35).
Many people struggle alone without sharing this burden with others.
This ‘solitary place’ keeps us from the being healed and restored.
By sharing my ‘legion’ with Jesus and someone else, it loses its power.
I realize I am not alone, that others have their own ‘legions’ too.
And I discover that Jesus can help me overcome my legion.
PRAYER
Lord, you want to save me from my ‘legion’. Am I willing to let you help me, or am I struggling alone in solitary confinement?

  1. The man was demon possessed but Jesus “had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man.” But the demons did not want to go to the Abyss (according to my study Bible – a place of confinement for evil spirits and Satan) Instead they asked to go into the pigs – but when they did they ran off the steep embankment and into the sea to drown. So I guess, they ended up in the abyss anyway! This is a bit of an insight into the evil spiritual world – that we often are unaware of. In the name Jesus – demons do flee. When tempted, especially then, I need to call on Jesus. Yet, often enough I don’t and get further along the way – I regret that and pray for more due diligence – to cast out evil thoughts before they nurture more evil! Thank you Lord that I can count on you to cast them out!

  2. Satan is real. He enjoys he destruction and controlling of human life. Fear him and hide in the protection and safety in Jesus. For those who trust in Jesus need not fear the Devil. Christ has released us from Satan’s authority and he can not claim us no more..I need to put on the whole armour of God each day anew for the Devil is real. He still goes around like a roaring lion but my God id mighty to save.
