Game of thrones?

Posted on July 13, 2024May 8, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Kings 1-2

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The kingdom was now established in Solomon’s hands.” (1 Kings 2:46)
These were violent, bloody times.
David showed mercy to his opponents in his day.
But now he commands Solomon to execute punishment.
It that context, that was how thrones were established.
You might call it the game of thrones.
Showing mercy was weakness; a king had to be strong.
Jesus is the Son of David who doesn’t play that game.
Jesus establishes the throne of God by his own blood.
He shows mercy, and that mercy does not end.
God uses David and Solomon to establish his kingdom.
But this does not make them God-like or good.
It is God’s grace and mercy that accommodates our weakness.
God does not treat us as our sins deserve – God is merciful.
I am glad to serve Jesus as my king, the true king of mercy!
PRAYER
Lord, I want to be a part of your kingdom. May your kingdom be established, and not our violent, bloody kingdoms.

Key words that are not to be forgotten: “if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul,” How can I walk faithfully? Only by the help of Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Even though my path sometimes takes bad twists – help me Lord to always find my way back to you! Thank you Jesus for being eternally faithful – for being my redeemer!

Obeying the word of the Lord. David’s charge to his son also reminded me of Joshua’s charge to the people before he died. As for me and my household, we will serve the living God. They as I need to walk in obedience to God. That is the way to walk – in His SonShine.

When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
    he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
    Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

think about it!

We fail in our duty to study God’s Word not so much because it is difficult to understand, not so much because it is dull and boring, but because it is work. Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion. Our problem is that we are lazy.
