What’s in your wallet?

Posted on May 21, 2024March 6, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 12:32-34

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out.” (Luke 12:33)
‘What’s in your wallet’ was voted the best business tagline in 2011.
Capitol One, an American financial institution, wanted to fill your wallet with money.
Actually, their money, with interest, in order to fill their own wallets.
Jesus also wants to know what’s in your wallet, but he wants to empty it.
He wants you to invest it, but not in yourself… in others.
Jesus wants us to invest in something that will last forever.
To invest in blessing and helping others, in doing good.
God has blessed this world with more than enough for everyone.
He has blessed us so that we could bless others, and be blessed even more.
Jesus loves people more than possessions or pleasure, and we should too.
“Sell your possessions and give to the poor.” (Luke 12:33)
I’ve not met a christian (myself included) who takes THIS part of the bible literally.
And I do not yet have the faith to obey this command… but I still need to face it.
Am I willing to let Jesus look in my wallet (heart), to see what’s in there?
PRAYER
Lord, these words challenge me, and rightly so. May your Spirit keep pressing me to re-evaluate my priorities, and make them more like yours!

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Have to admit it – this is so true. I can be protective and possessive about some things that I value – to my determent. I know the Lord teaches me and reminds me sometimes. I’m thankful for that – I have to keep my values right. Seek ye first the Kingdom is my reminder. Even with what I possess it is entrusted to me for kingdom service – help me Lord to dedicate my all and all that I have to the Kingdom. Help me take pleasure in that even as I am challenged to live for you more nearly each day!

    What defines you and me?
    Our words and our actions.
And our actions speak louder than words.
The first part of our lives we gather things and the second part ofour lives we get rid of the things we gathered. That tells a tale.
What also tells who we are is what we do with our finances-our wallets. Do we pass on the blessings of the Lord to others also financially? Or do we build up our own kingdom. I need to realize that all I have is His and I need to share it. Seek His Kingdom first. My happiness is serving Him.

    All that I am I owe to Thee;
Thy wisdom, Lord, has fashioned me.
I give my Maker thankful praise,
whose wondrous works my soul amaze.
