His banner over me!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 60

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“But for those who fear you, you have raised a banner…” (Psalm 60:4)
At the moment David is not feeling secure in the Lord.
As a nation they are under attack, and David feels that God has rejected them.
Yet despite how desperate the situation is, David still sees the Lord’s banner.
Imagine a battlefield, where armies are gathered, and their banner unites them.
As long as the banner still waves, the troops are encouraged to fight on.
When the battle is extremely difficult, as long as the banner waves there is hope.
When the enemy takes down the banner, the battle is over.
David sees the Lord’s banner rising up over the desperate battlefield.
Though it feels like God is against them, his banner over them is love!
“With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.” (Psalm 60:12)
As a Jesus follower, I do not see this as a call to physical arms or conflict.
The enemy in mind is the Deceiver, who is constantly hurling fiery arrows at us.
Through my own battles, I keep looking to the banner Jesus raised for us – the cross.
He has passed through the battle for me, and he will help me through as well.
PRAYER
Lord, everywhere I look I see your banner – the cross – waving over me. Strengthen me for today’s battle, and remind me that no enemy can defeat me, as long as I stand with you!

  1. God is our help. As David prays: “Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless. 12 With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.” I know I need the HS working in me to do what is right as I am faced with opportunities each day. Help me to serve Lord with all that I have and to face temptations that lead me away from keeping the kingdom first!

  2. As I live each day I need to see Jesus, for it is only by His presence/guidance that I am able to live for Him. He is able and He enables me each day to live for Him. And by my words and deeds others need to see that His banner over me is love – the love of God for me His child must be shared by my love for those around me. And it is only He who enables me to live for Him.

    He’s able, He’s able,
    I know He’s able,
I know my Lord is able
    To carry me through.
    (Repeat)
    He healed the broken-hearted
    And set the captive free,
He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see.
    He’s able, He’s able,
    I know He’s able,
I know my Lord is able
    To carry me through.
