“We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, or by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.”
(Madeleine L’Engle)
Do you agree or disagree with this?
How do I relate to people I disagree with, that I think are wrong?
Do they find me ‘so lovely that they want to know the source of it?’
“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” 1 Peter 2:12)
I agree with “We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, or by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely”
But I disagree with
“that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.”
In my experience, there has not been many people who want “with all their hearts to know the source of it.”
Either I am not doing a very good job at showing the light or I am just not aware of it.
In any case, I believe that whatever I do, has an effect on people even if I do not see it at this moment.
There might not be “MANY” but I hope and trust that the Holy Spirit will work in people’s life in spite of my mediocrity and use it to bring one closer to Christ. It is all in his hand.
Yes I do agree with it. Seeking to understand others and helping them to understand what I believe in respectful and warm way is the only way to have an ongoing conversation. I keep praying for results hoping that I may help other find the way to Jesus!
Jesus – who is, who he was portrayed in the Bible and what He taught and stood for – attracts – He is that light!
