God passes through death for me!

Posted on October 18, 2019October 17, 2019 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Genesis 13-15
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“A smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces.” (Genesis 15:17)
In the ancient near east, a covenant signified the seriousness of the vows made.
Animals were cut in half, and covenant-makers walked between them, through the blood.
In this way, they declared, ‘may I be cut in half (die) if I do not keep my promises!’
But notice here that Abram does not walk between the pieces.
It is dark, and a flaming firepot and torch ‘appear’ and pass between the pieces.
The message is that God is passing through the pieces, this is His covenant.
Most covenants are two-way covenants, with promises on both sides.
But not God’s foundational covenant with Abram (another one will follow).
God commits to suffering and dying if the covenant does not work.
God is not the covenant-breaker, we are… but God promises to die.
In time, God shows up again in Jesus, and keeps His promise fully.
He is condemned, His blood is shed, and sin is punished – our sin!
The basis of my relationship with God is not my faithfulness but God’s.
Even if I blow it, God has me covered, He passes through death so I don’t have to.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You that my hope does not lie in my faithfulness or perfection, cause I can’t do it. Thank You for passing through death for me, that I might live with You!

Just reading how God blessed Abram – that he could rout all those kings – rescue Lot and then receive a wonderful blessing from Melchizedek – King of Salem – and his response was an immediate tithe! Then God continues to reassure Abram and foretells the future – how God trusted Abram. I desire that too – more and more – to be blessed to be a blessing! Inspired and enabled to bless others!

God was and is with His people.
He promises to be with us.
It is He who gives us Life and Life eternal. That He has promised.
    He knows the future
and I just need to put y hand into His hand
as He leads and guides me in the way way to journey
    in His SonShine.

Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me
I am tired and I need Thy strength and power
To guide me over my darkest hour
For just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me

Lead me, guide me along the way
For if you lead me I cannot stray
Or just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me
I am lost if you take your hand from me
I am blind without try light to see

Lord just always let me Thy servant be
Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me
Lead me, guide me along the way
For if you lead me I cannot stray

Lord just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh Lord, won’t you lead me

God, because He’s God, has a big picture view of life. He knows the future. He loves us so much that He stepped into a covenant (binding agreement) with us. He will keep His word. Help me to trust you, God, even when I can’t see the future. Help me to dwell in Your love and providence.

think about it!

You can give without loving. But you cannot love without giving.
