Why do I post my bible reflections?

Posted on September 4, 2017September 30, 2019 by Norm

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Every day for the last 10+ years I have been posting my reflections here.
I am so thankful to ‘tdk’ for supporting me with his own reflections on the blog.
Someone recently asked me WHY I post my reflections here.

First I want to clarify what my reasons are NOT.
I am NOT writing these reflections because I am a minister, and I get paid to do it.
I am NOT writing these reflections to impress people how pious and holy I am.
I am NOT writing these reflections to teach people what they should think or believe.
I am NOT writing these reflections to excuse you from doing your own reflecting.

The primary reason for these reflections is that I may learn and grow as a Jesus follower.
I need this God-breathed book to teach, rebuke, correct and train ME in the right way.
Despite my seminary education and years of bible reading and teaching, I have much to learn.
Every time I read a passage, I expect that there is something I need to hear, to learn, to change.
If no one reads my blog, I would still need and want to post my reflections, for my own growth.

Having gone through the whole bible more than 3 times, there’s still new discoveries.
The Spirit of Jesus seems to draw new lessons from old texts, ones I’ve read many times.
Over time my familiarity with Jesus and His message is growing – but it is a long process.
But the real challenge has been to move beyond learning it to living it.
The goal is that I might be equipped for every good work… I’ve only just begun!

There is a secondary reason for these reflections: to help others have their own reflections.
Every time I post something, I include the question, ‘what do you sense the Lord saying to you?’
I’m not looking for people to agree or disagree with me, but to listen to Jesus themselves.
Whether what I write is good or bad, inspiring or boring, really shouldn’t matter to you.
The invitation is for YOU to participate by sharing your own reflections.

Consider this your invitation to share in hearing from the Lord through scripture.
Your thoughts do not need to be lengthy or profound, just real and personal.
If you’re embarrassed to share your thoughts, use a code name (like tdk).
Only I will know who you are (I have to confirm your email).
Trust me, over time you will find yourself hearing from Jesus as you read.
And what you share will inspire me and others as we seek to hear from Jesus too.

think about it!

Evangelism is not a professional job for a few trained men, but is instead the unrelenting responsibility of every person who belongs to the company of Jesus.
