What does my giving reveal about me?

Posted on November 7, 2013November 7, 2013 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Mark 12:41-44
What is the spirit behind my giving or sharing or generosity?
As Jesus watches me, what does He observe about me, about my priorities and values.
This widow would have been unknown to history, had it not been for Jesus noticing.
It’s usually the big donors that get recognized, that get buildings named after them.
Why did this widow “put in everything – all she had to live on”?
How does this compare with me, with how and why I give?
God is not looking for my money, He wants to know where my heart is.
He can tell a lot about me by looking at the activities of my wallet or debit card.
And though other people may not notice – or may be impressed by – my giving activities… God sees, God knows, God understands.
God doesn’t want my money, He wants me to love Him and people; if I do, I will “put in everything, all I have to live on!”
This is how He loves me, for He also “put in everything” for me.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You are watching me as I handle my blessings. Help me to watch too, to pay attention to giving, and to note what it says about my heart.

    Observation/Application
It still all comes down to the heart of it – ‘for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’

One way to see where your heart is – where does your money go? The check book is a great indication where one’s values lie. Whose money is it in the first place? The Lord’s! Where is it spent? On me, myself and I or on Kingdom causes? Where the money goes is also a sign of the times of heart direction. Our hearts follow our treasure. What’s/Who’s in first place?

Christ’s ministry showed that He came to serve and do His Father’s will and I must do the same. Serve. And do the will of my Father. All for Jesus.

    Prayer
Lord , may that be evident this day in all I do and say that You are first, others are second and I’m in last place. Help me this day to live the JOY principle in all I do and say.

    Jesus, all for Jesus,
All I am and have and ever hope to be.
    Jesus, all for Jesus,
All I am and have and ever hope to be.

All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into Your hands.
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into Your hands.

For it’s only in Your will that I am free,
For it’s only in Your will that I am free,
    Jesus, all for Jesus,
All I am and have and ever hope to be.
