Mark 5:21-24 NIRV

Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee in a boat. It landed at the other side. There a large crowd gathered around him. Then a man named Jairus came. He was a synagogue ruler. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet. He begged Jesus, “Please come. My little daughter is dying. Place your hands on her to heal her. Then she will live.” So Jesus went with him.

    Jesus went across the lake again. They seemed to spend a quite a bit of time crossing this lake. Is it any wonder that we read of several storms and events that happened on the lake? Like last week’s calming of the storm, and another time of Jesus and Peter walking on the water?

    When they get to the other side, a crowd again is quickly formed. This was a time in Jesus’ ministry that people were drawn to his teaching and his miracles. Jesus leaves a path of wholeness. When Jairus pleads with him to come and help his sick daughter, Jesus goes with him. The stories about Jesus tell of individual people. This allows me to realize that Jesus can be real to me as an individual, rather than just an idea that Jesus can heal. If we had read that Jesus healed people in a certain area, which would be interesting, but to hear the individual stories makes the story feel more real to me.

    Jesus is interested in the individual person, and he is interested in me. I thank God for being close to me, and helping me when things get tough. I thank God that the small things we do can have huge results.

    Observations/Application
    Jesus can’t escape the following, even when crossing the lake. The people find the ‘miracle man.’ The synagogue leader came and pleaded with Jesus for his daughter’s life. Christ went with him. Where do I go for healing? Do I bring all things to God in prayer? I need to follow Him always by my words and my actions.

    Prayer
    Lord, help me daily in my walk with You. May I talk to You not only the first thing in the morning but throughout the day.

    O Master, let me walk with Thee,
    In lowly paths of service free;
    Tell me Thy secret; help me bear
    The strain of toil, the fret of care.
    Help me the slow of heart to move
    By some clear, winning word of love;
    Teach me the wayward feet to stay,
    And guide them in the homeward way.
    O Master, let me walk with Thee,
    Before the taunting Pharisee;
    Help me to bear the sting of spite,
    The hate of men who hide Thy light.
    The sore distrust of souls sincere
    Who cannot read Thy judgments clear,
    The dullness of the multitude,
    Who dimly guess that Thou art good.
    Teach me Thy patience; still with Thee
    In closer, dearer, company,
    In work that keeps faith sweet and strong,
    In trust that triumphs over wrong.
    In hope that sends a shining ray
    Far down the future’s broadening way,
    In peace that only Thou canst give,
    With Thee, O Master, let me live.

The Word of God is a Person. When you read it, do you see words or do you see Him?
