Get off our high horses!

Reflecting on Luke 19:28-40

“If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.” (Luke 19:31)

The prophet Zechariah promised Messiah would arrive on the colt of a donkey.
“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zechariah 9:9)
Jesus understands the meaning of this symbolic moment.
Jesus needs this humble animal to make clear what kind of king He is.

For the same reason Jesus also needs humble followers.
As Paul says, God chooses the weak to shame the strong (1 Corinthians 1:27).
God’s greatness and wisdom seem weak and foolish to worldly people.
They prefer stadium events, mega-churches, stretch limos and epic fury.
Has the church lost sight of God’s idea of greatness?

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” (Matthew 20:26)
The Lord does not need the rich, the popular, the successful, the winners.
The Lord needs humble ‘nobodies’ and ordinary ‘everybodies’ showing great love.
God is not working to make anyone great again, but to keep us humble.
We need to get off our high horses, and ride the donkey with Jesus.

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You still need humble servants to carry Your mission to the world. Forgive us for parading around the world as if we are mighty steeds. Humble your church, that Your kingdom may come the way You did.

Jesus is our role model. As the disciples followed their Rabbi to be like Him, I too need to carry Jesus in all my doings and sayings. I just need to be a channel of His peace, sharing the love of Jesus with my words and deeds. Heneeds to be first in all my words and deeds. All for Jesus.

think about it!

There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, ‘All right, then, have it your way.’
