The God that humbly kneels and serves!

Posted on February 9, 2026February 8, 2026 by Norm
Reflecting on Luke 12:35-48

“(The Master) will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.” (Luke 12:37)

This section speaks to the role of God’s servants in God’s kingdom.
Jesus is not speaking just to the disciples, but to all who faithfully serve.
To faithfully serve is to do what the Master asks: care for the household (v.42).
Jesus says that when He comes, He will humbly serve those who humbly served.
God in Jesus dresses to serve, to wait on His humble servants.

As followers of Jesus, we serve a humble, servant leader.
He is not a elevated, finely dressed, demanding and controlling leader.
“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, …” (Matthew 20:28)
This is not a one-time or un-God-like bahaviour, this is what God is like.
God rules as a humble, gracious ruler, and we were made to be like God.

We serve God this way, and God serves us this way… the kingdom of God.
When christians live and lead any other way, they are unfaithful servants.
When christians strive to make themselves great, they are not serving Jesus.
As servants, we are called to humbly care for God’s household, like God!
And when Jesus comes again, He will do the same to His servants, like God!

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You are not a demanding or controlling leader. You never have been, and You never will be. You are, and were, and always will be like God: a compassionate, gracious, patient, loving, faithful and forgiving. May You find me doing the same when You come again!

I remember a story I was once told about Martin Luther. The question asked – Martin, what would you be doing when the Lord returns? He replied – this as he was working in the garden. In other words, whatever I do I am doing the Lord’s work, kingdom work, at all times, till He comes again or till He takes me home. Each day I need tobe a servant true.

think about it!

Unless we rely on God’s power within us, we will yield to the pressures around us.
