To DO what Jesus did!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 6:46-49

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46)
Jesus is not looking for believers but for doers.
Jesus comes declaring and demonstrating love for all.
Christians confess this love of Jesus, but do they DO it!
Not just speaking love, but showing it, sacrificing for it!
Jesus did not just love those he agreed with, or who he liked.
Jesus joined up with outsiders, sinners and the imperfect.
Those that the religious people rejected, he embraced with love.
He came to help them, to show them God’s way of living and loving.
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:36)
Christians who do not love like Jesus build their lives on sand.
There are so many churches out there – how many are built on sand?
Are we known for practicing God and Jesus-like love for people?
Is this why so many churches today are ‘collapsing’?
Jesus is asking me, am I a just a believer, or am I am doer?
PRAYER
Lord, you are speaking to me. Am I building my life on your love – both receiving AND sharing it with others? I want to DO what you did, not just confess it.

  1. Listening and doing: “everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.” Today, with all kinds of information at our disposal – it’s easy to be misled. It is good test the information – make sure of reliable sources in decision making. Jesus is the most reliable source – building my life choices on his teaching is a solid foundation. Regularly consulting with him through prayer and listening to the HS – helps me stay solid – I have a firm footing and the rest of my building must build using durable materials. But then it’s not just for myself, but that I may be an ‘instrument’ doing what the Master wants me to do: built strong and equipped for service in His Kingdom!

  2. Loving = knowing = doing.
    Have the ears to hear means one also does what he hears. To hear the word of the Lord means to do the word of the Lord. Do this and live. That’s what the Master said. Live and do this. Hearing and doing go together. Our words need to be put into action. Others will know that we are Christian by our love. Love is an action word – to do.

    We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord;
    We are one int he Spirit, we are one in the Lord;
    And we pray that all unity will one day be restored.

    Chorus: And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love,
    yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.

    We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand;
    We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand;
    And together we’ll spread the news that God is in our land.

    We Will work with each other, we will work side by side;
    We will work with each other, we will work side by side;
    And we’ll guard each man’s dignity and save each man’s pride.

    All praise to the Father, from whom all things come;
    And all praise to Christ Jesus, His only Son.
    And all praise to the Spirit who makes us one.
