Glowing with God-like love!

Posted on October 2, 2023September 30, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Mark 9:1-8

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!” (Mark 9:7)
The disciples were eager to see the kingdom of God come with power.
This is why Peter was so adamant that Jesus the Messiah would not die (8:31-33).
But Jesus challenges the way they think about the kingdom of God.
It is not military or political power but God-like goodness overcoming evil.
What the disciples saw here was not the divine nature of Jesus peeking out.
It was the human nature of Adam and Eve before sin, glowing with God’s goodness.
The kingdom of God is this world under God-like humans, glowing with God’s love.
This is the life that pleases God, and that God wants us to learn from Jesus.
Jesus reveals God’s power by overcoming sin with humble, God-like love.
Jesus rescues and restores humanity to glow with humble, God-like love.
The kingdom of God still comes with power, when we listen to and follow Jesus in love.
When we take care of God’s ‘little ones’, and offer ourselves to bless and serve others.
When we care and share, when we love and forgive like God does.
We too will glow with God’s glory and favour when we offer ourselves in love.
PRAYER
Lord, when I see you, I see God’s goodness and love shining through. May your goodness and love shine through me as well, that others may see God like this!

    The disciples with Jesus witnessed something out-of-this-world – and it testified to them who Jesus was and his relationship with the Father: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!” Their testimony is a witness for us. Thank you Jesus. Help me to grow in listening to you!

    The law and the prophets all pointed to Jesus. Jesus would now complete what the Lord had started. Listen to Jesus for He brings salvation to the world. As Jesus is the Light of the world I too need to let my light shine, the light I have in Christ.

    1. The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
    Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in;
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

    Refrain:
    Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;
    Sweetly the light has dawned upon me;
    Once I was blind, but now I can see:
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

    2. No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
    We walk in the light when we follow our Guide!
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

    3. Ye dwellers in darkness with sin-blinded eyes,
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
    Go, wash at His bidding, and light will arise;
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

    4. No need of the sunlight in Heaven we’re told;
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
    The Lamb is the Light in the city of gold,
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

think about it!

We ought not to grow tired of doing little things for the love of God, who regards not the greatness of the work, but the love with which it is performed.
