Seeking the good life?

Posted on June 11, 2023June 10, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 37

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.” (Psalm 37:3)
This Psalm shows the contrast between a God-like person, and a God-less person.
Though for a time selfish, greedy, cruel people seem to succeed, their doom is certain.
Don’t envy them, hang on to God; make it your priority to do what is right.
Trust that the God-life is the good-life, the only life that will last.
When I reflect on my own life, I don’t see myself in either extreme.
I’m neither devoted to selfish, greedy living nor to selfless, generous living.
I’m more in the middle, mostly moving in the right direction but not always.
The Lord is not condemning nor commending me; he is calling me to aim for better.
This Psalm reminds me of what the true ‘good life’ is, and compels me to seek it.
It is not pursuing the desires of my heart, but pursuing the goodness of the Lord.
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
If I want (delight in) the God-life, I will experience the good life of God.
So many people pursue the good life but never seem to find it.
Only the God-life can give us the good life — life to the full that will never end!
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for restoring me to the God-life, it really is the good life!

    “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.” I have a tendency to fret -even subconsciously – seems to be my fallback position. I pray about it when I do – it does – especially when I cannot sleep. It’s getting better as I continue my walk with the Lord. HS continue to encourage me and to cling to the hope that I have in you. Help me to trust more fully each day and to be generous in blessing others!

    ‘Trust in the Lord and do good’ is what the Master says. Do this and live. Be blameless. Although the wrong seem oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet. He upholds those who trust in Him. He is faithful. Take refuge in Him. He is my Stronghold. My Security. My eyes need to be focused on Him in all my doings and He will take care of me.

    1 Be not dismayed whate’er betide,
    God will take care of you;
    Beneath his wings of love abide,
    God will take care of you.

    Refrain:
    God will take care of you,
    through ev’ry day, o’er all the way;
    He will take care of you,
    God will take care of you.

    2 Through days of toil when heart doth fail,
    God will take care of you;
    When dangers fierce your path assail,
    God will take care of you. [Refrain]

    3 No matter what may be the test,
    God will take care of you;
    Lean, weary one, upon his breast,
    God will take care of you. [Refrain]

think about it!

An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind.
