PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 34

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Taste and see that the Lord is good!” (Psalm 34:8)
Life in this world is hard because of sin and suffering.
David’s life was not easy, and yet he somehow found a way to hope, to rejoice.
Whenever things went sour, he reminded himself of the sweetness of God.
Try it, taste it, and you will see that it is good.
The deceiver continues to entice us to taste forbidden fruit.
But all the treasures and pleasures of this world without God will make us sick.
They may taste sweet, but they will turn sour.
Following Jesus seems sour at first, but its sweetness increases with time.
We may have to deny ourselves now, but we will be blessed in the long run.
As a Jesus follower, I need to return to God’s table every day.
I need to remind myself of all the blessings that I do experience with him.
The more we savor the flavor of God’s goodness, the more satisfied we will be.
And we will have an easier time convincing others to ‘taste and see’…
IF they sense in us that we are feasting on the goodness of God.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to slow down and appreciate every taste of your goodness. Help me to see these as free samples of the feast that is being prepared!

  1. David had a lot to worry about – his life was under threat – he was a fugitive running from King Saul who tried to kill him. He had a lot to fear. He tried different things but he most of all had to learn to trust in God. So when he writes: “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears” he learned that it was God who was delivering him – keeping him safe. I too have to learn to trust more and not be so anxious – that God will work things out. I need to be diligent – but it all does not depend on me! Help me Lord to be delivered from my anxious thoughts as I seek you more nearly, dearly every day! Thank you Holy Spirit for guiding me!

  2. I am His and He is mine. God is my Refuge and Strength. He is my Father and as all fathers, He desires our/my good. Each day anew I walk with the Lord and my words and deeds must reflect that. I need to walk each day with my small hand in His large hand – leading me and guiding me always. My focus needs to be doing His will and He will see me through throughout my life’s travels. His will be done in my living for Jesus.

    Spirit of the Living God,
    Fall afresh on me,
    Spirit of the Living God,
    Fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me.
    Spirit of the Living God,
    Fall afresh on me.
