PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 6:19-24
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“The eye is the lamp of the body.” (Matthew 6:22)
Think of a flashlight in a dark room; where the light shines, you can see.
But if it is pointing the wrong way, it will not help.
Point the flashlight to the ceiling, or behind you, you can’t see where to go.
Our eyes help us to see, but if their focus is unhealthy, they won’t help.
Jesus is warning us about the kinds of things that take control of us.
Focusing in getting rich, on being popular or personal pleasure is not healthy.
Neither is focusing on your failures, or your weaknesses, or your sorrows.
Fix your attention on what matters most; let God be your master and treasure.
Fix your attention on what is good, helpful, positive (Philippians 4:8-9).
When God and God’s priorities and values become yours, life will be brighter.
What do focus your attention on, what matters most to you, and controls your life?
This is our treasure, which becomes our master, which directs our lives.
Everyone has their own unique focus, but the question is: is it healthy?
Spend time today reflecting on what you focus on the most – is it good for you?
PRAYER
Lord, I can feel the pull towards unhelpful thoughts and experiences, and it is darkening my life. Help me to shift my focus on you, to make you my treasure and master!
When I clean my car – am I devoted to it? Or when I go over my accounts – does it represent what I value most? I ask myself and check my motives. I know I need to be a responsible steward with the resources entrusted to me but is my protectiveness or even obsession – devotion? I strive for balance – the truth is when I have fewer things that I own – the happier I am – the less to steward and care for. But really I need to live with the resources God has entrusted to me and not them get in the way of growing in relationship with Jesus. If I can continue use my home and resources to provide not only for ourselves but bless others – then I can be at peace. I need to live in harmony with God and see all things entrusted to me to be His and for His service! Thank you Lord – help me to be faithful!
Why am I here?
What is my purpose in life?
Why was I created but to serve. Serve Him!
All of my days I need to serve my living God. That needs to be my focus.
Serve Him.
May His Spirit lead me and guide me this day to do just that.
1 As for me and my house, we will serve You, Lord,
All the days of our lives.
As for me and my house, we will serve You, Lord;
Yes, we will serve You, Lord!
For, Lord God, we love and honor You;
You alone are worthy to be praised!
Holy God, we worship You;
Yes, we’ve come to worship You!

All the days of our lives.

O Lord God, the Beginning and the End!
Your great love has saved us from our sin!
Lord, we bless Your Holy Name!

All the days of our lives.

And with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength,
We love You, O Lord God!

You alone are worthy of my praise!
Holy God, I worship You;
Lord, I’m here to worship You!
Lord, I’m here to worship You!
